The Afro Hair Live show

It’s been a few weeks now since the hair show live, and I wasn’t going to talk about it because i was incredibly disappointed about it, but a few emails have been sent asking how it was so here is what I thought:

I willing paid 12 pounds to walk into a fairly sparse auditorium full of product stands for weaves, relaxers and inferior products. With the exception of 2 natural product companies, and 1 natural hair seminar performed by a woman who had on a full length weave and was pressing someone’s hair staight, everything else was pretty much what you expect in a BBS store. I head to the stand for the Magazine Black Hair- where they handed out bags filled with product and magazine samples. Which is nice- except all the products had either petroleum or mineral oil in them and the magazine was for Caucasian women from last August. I had to laugh.

I was particularly disappointed in the show guide. Out of 28 pages there were three – yes three- full page adverts for bleaching creams, targeting young women. I was not thrilled say the least.

It was nice to be in a room full of women of color looking for information, help, new styles etc though.

I do understand how you feel, I have been to the Afro Hair show twice and I have found that there is a lot of products for relaxed and weaved hair. I do hope that there are increasing more stalls for natural hair.

If it’s your 1st time going to the afro beauty show then your forgiven. If you’ve been before and keep going expecting things to change then shame on you. I haven’t been to that show in about 10 years, you see it doesn’t cater for natural haired black women. The Adornment Natural Hair show was the place to be, unfortunately it hasn’t happened for a few years due to financial climate (Adornments words).
