Henna update: I heart your comments

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who wrote in to give me advice on the henna breakup. There was some great comments and if I decide to henna again (I’m thinking about it…) I will definitely use your recommendations. No yogurt with the henna. Try green tea and honey instead.

I have to share something. Today, I was really frustrated with the state my hair was in, and had been in all week. Fuzzy and not wanting to curl no matter how many times I DT. (I did stay clear of protein conditioners)

I decided to strand test the Cherry Lola treatment to see if therer was any improvement on my sad, sad hair. I liked the results so I did the treatment to my whole head. I left it on for about 10 minutes. Then I rinsed and co-wash and then styled with the Henna Wax Treament. What can I say… the curls came back! Hurrah!
This is not a twist out- this is strictly a wash and go. I did try a new technique in the shower though. I’m going to try it again tomorrow and if the technique works again, I’ll post about it tomorrow. Here are the results :

Give yourself a couple of weeks before henna-ing again. It takes a while for hair to re-coop and re-establish 100% moisture. It takes about 1 1/2 weeks for me, that includes a DC or two.

Try just the henna and honey. The green tea has properties similar to that of protein, so I would leave that out for now.
I would recommend adding amla powder if you could find it.

cl, the results of your your a.a. treatment are fantastic! im waiting for a bottle to come in the mail and i will be trying this myself. in the interim, i am interested in your styling process. do you use a denman on small sections *like teri* or twistout/coil out, or… ? my hair normally looks like your post henna pic. thanks!

Thanks Michelle. On this post this was a wash and go- Once the treatment is on the curls form themselves, and then it a case of be very gently when you rinse the treatment out and co wash, so you don’t disturb the curls once in. I’ll be posting about a good way to achieve this the next few days…

found you thru alelia, and gosh, are you ever cute! love your hair, girl! sorry that henna doesn’t work for you. since i started wearing my hair natural (ten years, give or take) i haven’t even attempted a colour for fear of the results you described earlier. my colour is a boring 1B and i’m always looking for ways to make it shine. jojoba oil is my best friend…

Great curl definition!!!!

Love those bangs over your face. Lovely style, very retro.

[...] cherry lola does this braggs amino, baking soda, and yogurt deep treatment which makes her hair look AMAZINGLY DEFINED! thats the type of definition i crave without using gel. it didnt work for me. at all. it just annoyed the crap out of me. im going to try it one more time but i doubt it’ll do anything.  [...]
